Wesley Enoch’s trailblazing musical play, The Sunshine Club, is playing The Q on Wednesday and Thursday nights, complete with no fewer than 28 songs composed by John Rodgers.
Featuring a top cast of 10 and a five-piece live band on stage, it enjoys a rare billing —”perfect for audiences seeking entertaining and socially relevant work”.
The play tells the story of Frank Doyle, an Aboriginal serviceman who has come home from World War II, only to find that although the wider world may have changed, attitudes back home in Brisbane are just the same.
Determined for a better life, Frank starts The Sunshine Club, a place where black and white can meet and dance. For this is a dance musical, too, with a formidable line up of hoofers.
Oh, yes, and in The Sunshine Club, Frank dreams of a future where he can dance with Rose, the girl next door.
It’s a genuine, intelligent heartwarmer!
The Sunshine Club, The Q, Queanbeyan, July 31-August 1.
