Canberrans can now fly non-stop to Bali, with Virgin Australia launching its new direct service between Canberra and Denpasar.
The flights will operate three times a week and mark Virgin Australia’s first international service from Canberra Airport.
While initially being offered as a seasonal service through to January, Virgin has indicated there is potential to increase flight frequency during peak travel periods if demand is strong.
Canberra Airport chief executive Stephen Byron said the new route was a major milestone for the airport and the region.
“Direct international services are incredibly important for the Canberra region, and this new Bali service is a wonderful milestone for our community,” Mr Byron said.
“Bali is one of Australia’s most popular international holiday destinations, and we know this service will be warmly welcomed by travellers across the region.
“We’re delighted to be expanding our network with Virgin Australia and introducing Virgin Australia’s first international service from Canberra, with hopes that this marks the start of further international growth with Virgin Australia.”
The service gives Canberra travellers a direct link to one of Australia’s most popular overseas destinations, eliminating the need to transit through Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.
The launch is part of Canberra Airport’s push to rebuild and expand its international network following the pandemic, with airport officials hopeful the Bali route will pave the way for additional overseas services in the future.
To mark the start of the service, Virgin Australia is offering discounted fares on selected flights over the next month, with a limited booking period applying.
