A Queanbeyan woman has become Australia’s newest multi-millionaire after changing a single number on her Powerball ticket before Thursday night’s draw.
The unnamed woman held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1567, taking home more than $60.6 million.
The winner told lottery officials she had swapped one number on her PowerHit entry at the last minute after noticing she had “too many numbers in the 30s”.
“I had 33 and 34, so I took out 33 and made it 5. How insane is that!” she said.
In addition to the division one prize, the woman’s PowerHit entry also scored division two 19 times, lifting her total winnings to $60,638,678.35.
“Oh my god! Holy crap!” she said when contacted by lottery officials.
“It’s insane, absolutely insane!
“My mouth’s gone all dry – this is insane. You have no idea how much my head is spinning right now.”
The woman said she was an “everyday worker” still paying off a mortgage before learning of the win.
“Up until 10 minutes ago, I had a mortgage,” she said.
“I’ll keep working for now… but it might not be full time.
“I’m still young enough to enjoy this, share it with the family and make sure everyone’s comfortable for the rest of my life.”
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1567 were 26, 30, 10, 34, 16, 5 and 12. The Powerball number was 11.
The winning entry was purchased through The Lott app.
