Star Polish pianist Lucas Krupiński will perform Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2, alongside Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, Titan, conducted by The National Capital Orchestra’s artistic director Louis Sharpe in a concert titled Echoes of Humanity. Llewellyn Hall, September 12. 

The Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase tour features some of the annual event’s top acts on stage for two hours of solid laughter, provided by a line-up of veteran favourites and talents. The Playhouse, September 12.

The Killer Queen Experience, which rose from a local Brisbane-based Queen cover band to become an international touring show, is heading to The B at The Q, Queanbeyan, September 12. 

John Bell will discuss his new book, Living Shakespeare, with Kate Flaherty, drawing on a lifetime of experience to explore Shakespeare’s stories, characters and questions about them, including the challenges of casting Hamlet and the Bard’s changing relationship with time. ANU Meet the Author, Lowitja O’Donoghue Cultural Centre Cinema, ANU, September 23. 

Luminescence Chamber Singers’ Particles of Light takes inspiration from its own name to explore the luminous qualities of six voices. The program features world premieres by Andree Greenwell, Patrick Baker and Frank Nuyts, alongside works by Elena Kats-Chernin, Andrew Ford, David Lang and Orlande de Lassus. The Vault, Fyshwick, September 11.

Geoff’s Poetry at Smith’s Alternative will next feature Brendan Ryan, from Geelong, and Nicola Bowery, from Braidwood, on September 7. Featherfall, a poetry collaboration by Hazel Hall and Moya Pacey, will be launched there by Judith Nangala Crispin on September 10. 

Choristers of Flight! brings together Robyn Mellor, Polifemy women’s vocal ensemble and BlockSounds recorders for a spring concert of 16th century madrigals and music inspired by birds. This time Polifemy is joined by a group of male singers to create a musical chorus. Wesley Uniting Church, September 6. 

Ensemble Offspring celebrates Steve Reich’s 90th birthday with Reich: Rejoice: Repeat, a retrospective of the composer’s hypnotic rhythmic grooves and revolutionary phasing techniques. The program includes Clapping Music, performed by percussionists Claire Edwardes and Niki Johnson, a quartet and guest pianist Gabi Sultana from Malta. The Street Theatre, September 13.
