A fire on Monday at the National Theatre in Braidwood has necessitated a change of venue for the coming show, 1966 And All That, which is now relocating to Braidwood Servicemen’s Club, Coronation Avenue, Braidwood at 7pm on Saturday, as the theatre is now closed for repairs.

The heritage-listed building, council-owned community hall, has been a roller-skating venue, Rink Hall, then a cinema. From 1925 the building became known as the National Theatre, a name that persists.

As previously reported, the coming show, whose title is a take-off of W.C. Sellar and R.J. Yeatman’s spoof of English history, 1066 and All That, sees former Seeker Keith Potger join Moya Simpson and John Shortis and Elizabeth Hawkes in nostalgic look at one of Australia’s most memorable years.

According to Shortis and Simpson, Potger and Hawkes have been running around the around the entire town, frantically changing posters.

“Bit of a shock for all concerned… BUT…the show must go on,” they say.
