The Canberra Art Fair has been postponed from May to October, with organisers citing ongoing global uncertainty and public unease.

Founder Margaret Hadfield said the decision was made to ensure visitors and exhibitors feel confident attending the large-scale event. She noted the significant costs involved in staging the fair at Exhibition Park, adding that the delay would also give artists extra time to prepare their work.

The inaugural fair, held in 2025 at the Fitzroy Pavilion, was created by Hadfield after discussions with designer Joanne Hogan and signwriter Mike Hogan about the absence of events like the former Canberra Outdoor Art Show. Hadfield said such events are vital for local artists to showcase and sell their work.

Last year’s event attracted 62 exhibitors, including artists from Sydney, Wollongong and the NSW north coast.
