Summernats: Driver arrested after queuing incident

The driver of a black Mazda SUV allegedly drove at a Summernats traffic controller near EPIC.

Early Friday afternoon police were called to the intersection of Northbourne Avenue and Flemington Road after reports that the Mazda drove down the bike lane as traffic control personnel attempted to re-direct it into the queue of traffic.

They say an argument occurred between traffic controllers and the driver of the Mazda, and it’s alleged the driver then drove at a traffic controller before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Mazda was subsequently arrested and will face court at a later date.

Police say there was a large queue of traffic and members of the public were seen filming the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage should call 1800 333000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
