Drunk drives at bystanders trying to help him

A 22-year-old man has been charged after allegedly driving at bystanders who attempted to stop him from drink driving in Kambah on Wednesday night.

Police say other patrons and staff tried to stop the man from getting into his car when he left a licensed premise at around 11pm, but he drove off with another man still holding on to the vehicle.

The other man fell off and the driver allegedly drove up and down the street repeatedly, causing the bystanders to scatter.

Police arrested the man at home around midnight. He underwent a blood alcohol screening test, returning a reading of 0.142.

He has been charged with using an offensive weapon, driving a motor vehicle with alcohol in his breath, dangerous driving and failing to stop and provide assistance.
