REX has topped the December rankings of on-time performances and cancellations of Australian airlines.
Bonza boss Tim Jordan… we’ve seen a substantial improvement in performance.”

The regional airline that operates flights between Canberra and Melbourne, after ditching its Canberra-Sydney service, has topped the rankings with 70 per cent of flights on time and 0.6 per cent cancellations.

There’s been an improvement in services provided by Qantas, which cancelled just  2.7 per cent of its services.
Virgin hit some chaotic Christmas turbulence and scrapped 7.7 per cent of flights. Only 53 per cent touched down on time. Virgin blamed bad weather.
It wasn’t a good December for Bonza Airways, either. It all hit,  just as the airline was continuing negotiations for a possible service with Canberra.
Bonza’s teething problems were revealed with the number of cancellations due to regulatory delays, which figures revealed almost show one in five flights being scrubbed.
CEO Tim Jordan blamed the poor rate of December cancellations and OTP on the “well publicised” delays in receiving regulatory approval related to its fleet of 737 jets, now in operation, operating out of its new Gold Coast base.

“Since receiving the necessary approvals, we’ve seen a substantial improvement in performance with January OTP at 76 per cent and January cancellations at 1.66 per cent, as at January 21,” says Jordan.

“When looking at December, if we isolate the Gold Coast performance, our cancellation rate for the remainder of our network was 3.75 per cent.

“In the months prior to the Gold Coast base opening, we had excellent results with October marking a 0.3 per cent cancellation rate, September zero per cent and August 0.6 per cent. We’re working towards getting back to these figures, or better, and giving our customers the kind of service they deserve and we can all be proud of.”
