Police want help with ‘multiple’ Summernats assaults

Burnout… One of the 13 cars seized by police at Summernats.

Car festival patrons were injured in “multiple” serious assaults inside Epic during Summernats on January 6.

Police say the injuries included swelling on the brain, severe concussion and permanent scarring to the face.

Earlier this month, police blamed moronic drivers with an IQ of a shoe size for bad behaviour at Summernats.  One officer branded them “morons” and Neanderthals.

Police seized 13 cars, including a Holden Commodore for doing a burnout metres from pedestrians.

Two people were also arrested on Saturday for anti-social behaviour.

Acting Inspector Mark Richardson told reporters: “The real car enthusiasts are not the problem, it’s the moron tourism.”

Police were running around playing “Whac-a-Mole” across Canberra with “a sub-species of the human race” as they did illegal burnouts and engaged in anti-social behaviour.

“It’s not the people that are going there to enjoy the event, it’s the people that go there just to do anti-social behaviour,” he said.

While many of the January 6 assaults have been captured on social media, police are appealing to any witnesses who haven’t spoken to them or may have phone video.

Call 1800 333000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
