Former radio identity and journalist Genevieve Jacobs is the new CEO of the charity foundation Hands Across Canberra.

She replaces Peter Gordon, who will retire from the role after 12 years on April 30.

“This is one of the most generous communities in Australia and I look forward to working with charities, individuals and businesses to endow Canberra’s future for the most vulnerable in our community,” Ms Jacobs said.

The outgoing CEO said: “Establishing a community foundation and building the trust of the not-for-profit community has been incredibly rewarding.

“Over the past 12 years we have generated over $20 million, which has all stayed in our community for the benefit of the citizens of our city who need our help the most. A lot of us know now why we embrace the slogan ‘Give where you live’.”
