TWO P-plate drivers have been booked and heavily fined for excessive speeding over the Christmas holiday period.

On Sunday evening police caught a red Mazda 3 travelling at 137km/h on the Majura Parkway where the speed limit is 100km/h.

Police say the driver was a 17-year-old boy from Gungahlin. He faces a fine of $700 and eight demerit points, resulting in a loss of licence. he also faces another $213 in fines for not displaying ‘P’ plates.

Later that evening a white Honda sedan was clocked doing 137km/h in the sign posted 80km/h zone on Horse Park Drive, Throsby

The driver, a 19-year-old Crace P-plater was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his licence for 90 days for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. He will also be fined $1841.

On Saturday evening police arrested the driver of a silver Mercedes sedan allegedly being driven displaying stolen Queensland registration plates on Gungahlin Drive, Kaleen.

The 32-year-old Coombs man was allegedly driving on a suspended learner licence. Further checks revealed the car was unregistered and uninsured, while the driver also allegedly returned a positive roadside drug screening.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court for offences including drug driving , possession of stolen property, displaying incorrect registration plates, using an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and being a suspended driver.

Double demerits remain in place until 11.59pm on Monday, January 1.
