Showing off is no excuse for speeding

19-year-old provisional driver pulled over for speeding at 145km/h in a 90km/h zone.

A 19-year-old provisional licence holder from Banks will lose his licence for three months for speeding by more than 50km/h, to “show off” for his partner.

Police on mobile patrol saw a Mazda 3 overtaking several other vehicles on the Monaro Highway, Fyshwick on Sunday night.

The police radar caught the driver speeding at 147km/h in the 90km/h zone.

After the 19-year-old driver stopped for police, he allegedly stated he was trying to “show off for his partner”.

The man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

He will be fined $1841 and accrue six demerit points, meaning he will lose his provisional licence for three months.
