BYO device, Jetstar’s axing seat-back screens

By aviation writer Scott Mayman
JETSTAR is axing its inflight entertainment screens, it says, to reduce weight and fuel burn.

While there’s no impact on passengers flying in and out of Canberra because the domestic service does not have any onboard entertainment, it will affect those connecting on the airline’s international flights.

Seat-back screens will be removed from 787 aircraft and the airline plans to install device holders and power outlets so passengers can use their own devices to stream content with on-board wi-fi.

For Jetstar, be prepared to bring your own device or face the prospect of boredom for the international sector.

The company says the current seat pitch won’t be changed, however the size of the business class cabin will increase with nearly double the number of seats being installed.
