Bonza pulls its belt in, cuts flights

Not so Bonza now… a launch photo of a happy cabin crew.
By aviation writer Scott Mayman
AS Bonza Aviation, launched earlier this year with great fanfare and excitement, cuts back on some of its Australian regional routes, the common question is: what about Canberra?
This past week the airline has announced cuts to its regional ambitions with some of those routes now been cut and others reduced.
But with only three aircraft in service and a  fourth used as a back up,  Bonza still hasn’t put Canberra on its radar.
Canberra Airport flights have been key in the success of other airlines increasing schedules involving the national capital with examples of flights between Canberra and and regional Victoria or NSW.
Can you imagine a direct flight between Canberra and Queensland’s Sunshine Coast? Or perhaps filling the void left by Qantas and Jetstar on days when they don’t fly between Canberra and the Gold Coast?
Bonza says it still plans to expand its fleet later in the year. Perhaps some ACT-bound traffic will be considered as part of its expansion, but for now, there’s no sign of a Canberra link.
