Robbery sees bailed teens back before the court

TWO boys, 15 and 14, who were both on bail for other offences, are facing the ACT Children’s Court charged in relation to an aggravated robbery in Charnwood.

Police allege the pair, both from the Belconnen region, brandished a knife and an axe and threatened staff at the newsagent’s shop in Charnwood shops about 4pm on Saturday.

The teens fled the scene on foot with a sum of cash. No one was physically injured during the robbery. The pair were arrested a short time later.

The 14-year-old has been charged with joint commission aggravated robbery, theft and breach of bail. He will also face burglary charges in relation to a home burglary that occurred in September in Flynn.

The 15-year-old has been charged with joint commission aggravated robbery and breach of bail.

Police have also asked people who live near the Charnwood shops to check their properties for items, such as clothing or weapons, that could be related to the robbery.

Anyone with information should call 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
