ACT burglar caught in NSW

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Karabar in relation to multiple burglaries and car thefts.

A home in Nicholls was burgled on October 16, with a BMW taken from the residence.

The car was found later that day with the driver engaging in pursuits in NSW. Soon after, it was found back in Nicholls, abandoned.

CCTV in the area showed the driver getting into a Subaru WRX that was also reported stolen from a burglary in Denman Prospect on October 14.

On October 18, a burglary occurred at a house in Weston, where approximately $50,000 worth of jewellery and tools were stolen over the course of two hours.

CCTV from the Weston house provided a clear image of the man responsible.

On Thursday, ACT Policing and NSW Police went to the man’s home in Karabar, where he was arrested.

A search of his home and at a house in Oaks Estate found evidence linking the man to multiple burglaries, as well as jewellery from the Weston burglary.

The man has been charged with aggravated burglary – intent to commit theft, drive motor vehicle without consent, and theft.

A significant number of power and work tools were not recovered, with police believing they may have been sold or traded by the man.

Police say the majority of the power tools were Milwaukee brand, and included the engraving of a mobile phone number ending in 580, or the company name WR Engineering.

Anyone with information about the burglaries or stolen items should contact police on 1800 333000.
