A new direct flight service linking Canberra and Launceston started on Wednesday, marking the first time the two cities have been connected by non-stop air travel.
The route is operated by Link Airways, a Canberra-based carrier, and will run four times a week. Passengers will also be able to access frequent flyer benefits through the Velocity Frequent Flyer program, operated by Virgin Australia.
With four flights a week, the journey time is just under two hours.
Canberra Airport’s head of aviation Michael Thomson said: “This route opens new opportunities for travellers from both regions, whether it’s accessing the pristine north of Tasmania or exploring all that Canberra has to offer.”
Thomson said the new connection brings the airport’s total to 12 domestic destinations, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen travel options and connectivity for the capital.
