Medical student wins piano eisteddfod prize

The results are in from the piano eisteddfod held over the weekend as part of the Australian National Eisteddfod, adjudicated by Jerry Wong, head of keyboard at the Melbourne Conservatorium.

First prize of $5000 went to Joshua Han, a medical student from Sydney, while second place winner was Sheng-Yuan Lynch, from Tasmania. Third place went to Zachary Sheung-Li, from Canberra, and fourth to Sean Kim, from Melbourne.

The event’s sponsor, Dianne Anderson, said the standard was “very high”, drawing particular attention to the “amazing” talent of 13-year-old Li.

This year’s Open Piano Championship attracted 12 entrants from NSW, Queensland, SA, Tasmania, Victoria and the ACT.

The Australian National Eisteddfod, Piano Eisteddfod continues at Wesley Music Centre until August 29.
