A 40-year-old woman has been charged with assaulting a police officer at a shopping centre in Canberra’s south over the weekend. 

Police say they were called to the Calwell Shopping Centre following reports of a disturbance involving several people at 7.30pm on Saturday.

Officers were speaking to a witness when a 40-year-old woman allegedly ran at one of them and punched the officer in the face.

The woman was arrested and charged.
