Man seriously injured in hockey stick attack

A 35-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting another man with a hockey stick in an unprovoked attack at a residence in McKellar last week.

Police allege that at about 8.40pm on August 6, the man entered the victim’s bedroom carrying a wooden hockey stick and allegedly began hitting the victim repeatedly and threatening to kill him. The victim was seriously injured.

On Monday, police found three wooden hockey sticks, a machete style knife, 12 rounds of ammunition, and two shotgun shells during a search of the McKellar home.

The accused man has been charged with four counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, reckless threat to kill a person and contravening the requirements of an order.
