P-plate driver clocked doing 160km/h

The grey Subaru Levorg caught travelling at 163km/h in a signposted 100km/h zone.

An 18-year-old man from Melba has had his provisional licence suspended after he was caught travelling more than 160km/h in Uriarra on Sunday.

Late on Sunday afternoon police were conducting mobile speed enforcement on Uriarra Road, when they clocked a grey Subaru Levorg travelling at 163km/h in a signposted 100km/h zone.

The vehicle was stopped and the P-plater’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and he was issued an infringement notice for $1841.00 and six demerit points.

Sgt Ken Williams, from ACT Road Policing, said: “While I was dealing with this particular infringement, I think I could have easily got another half dozen drivers for similar speeds, so clearly this message needs reinforcing.”
