Police are seeking to identify three men following incidents including damaging graves and attempting to break into a visitor’s car at Gungahlin Cemetery.

A family visiting a gravesite on Monday afternoon reported that a large pink quartz stone had been removed. The stone was around 30-35cm tall with a circumference around 40cm. A granite plaque was also pulled off the concrete base.

The site had been visited the day before and was not damaged at the time, so the incident occurred between Sunday and Monday afternoon.

Police said other recent incidents at the cemetery included:

• A woman reported her phone stolen from her belongings while she was visiting a family member’s grave.
• A man returned to his car on Monday afternoon to find a man allegedly attempting to break into his car.  
• A grave marker with two gold-plated hands was stolen from a gravesite.  

The man attempting to allegedly break into the car left with two other men in a white 4WD-style vehicle with ACT registration.

Police said they were seeking to identify the three men who were at the Gungahlin Cemetery on Monday and were also seeking to confirm any other incidents that have occurred at the cemetery recently.
