The National Gallery is sending Richard Lewer’s multimedia work Steve on a three-year national tour, beginning in SA. Acquired in 2024, the moving work combines thousands of paintings, photographs and film fragments to tell the story of a family confronting dementia.

The highlight of Canberra Choral Society’s Wanderlust concert will be the premiere of Arboretum, a new work for choir, flute and piano by music director Dan Walker, performed by the CCS choir alongside flautist Sally Walker and pianist Anthony Smith. Wesley Uniting Church, September 26.

Canberra bandoneon player Rodolfo Caivano hosts the Australian tour Summit: 50 Years of Piazzolla & Mulligan, featuring Argentine saxophonist Jorge Retamoza, with Canberra Tango Quintet, at The Street Theatre, September 26. 

Budding Entertainment is staging The Hunger Games Parody, a spoof packed with absurd twists, exaggerated characters, awkward interviews and survival mishaps. Overture Hall, Weston, September 20.

Artist Julie Bradley and ceramicist Susan Buret unite in Chroma, a springtime exhibition in which Bradley’s vividly coloured works on paper respond to Buret’s ceramic vessels, while Buret draws on the lines and textures of Bradley’s gouaches for inspiration. Art Song Canberra has bass baritone Jeremy Kleeman and pianist Jack Symonds presenting Michelangelo Visions, an exploration of Hugo Wolf’s Michelangelo-Lieder, Jack Symonds’s work In Stone and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Suite on Verses of Michelangelo, Op. 145. Wesley Music Centre, September 20.

The world of bestselling children’s author Andy Griffiths will be revealed through a new commissioned portrait by Ronnie van Hout and Brainstorm, alongside an immersive display of quirky objects that inspired Griffiths’ books. National Portrait Gallery, on view from September 26.

Richard Tognetti directs the Australian Chamber Orchestra in Mozart’s Last Symphonies, bringing together the composer’s final three symphonic masterpieces, including the celebrated Jupiter. Llewellyn Hall, September 25.

Moving In: Birdhouses by Al Phemister transforms Connect@Gunning Station into an outdoor village of imaginative birdhouses crafted from recycled copper and brass vessels. Until September 25.
