Canberra’s annual celebration of Latin American culture, La Fiesta, returns to Civic tomorrow (November 7), with live music, dance performances, art and food.
Now in its fourth year, the free festival will run from 1pm to 10pm at Latin American Plaza in Childers Street, with an expanded program featuring three stages.
Performers include Sorbo Amplio, Suns of Mercury and The New Monos, with music ranging from nueva cumbia and Afro-Cuban rhythms to reggae.
A new community stage will host artist talks, workshops and panel discussions, while an open-air gallery, developed with Latin American embassies, will showcase contemporary art under the theme City of Colours.
More than a dozen food vendors will serve Brazilian barbecue, Peruvian street food, Colombian arepas, Mexican tacos and empanadas.
Hosted by the City Renewal Authority, the festival also involves diplomatic representatives from several Latin American countries.
La Fiesta is at Latin American Plaza, 38 Childers Street, Civic, from 1pm to 10pm on Saturday (November 7). Entry is free, with food and drinks available for purchase.
