Speeding P-platers lose licences in police blitz

Caught… the blue fiesta clocked by police at 116kmh.

TWO speeding provisional drivers have lost their licences after being caught in a police speed-enforcement operation.

The first driver was detected driving at 115kmh in a 90kmh zone on William Hovell Drive, Molonglo Valley, at about 7.50pm on Friday.

The 19-year-old Crestwood, NSW, man, driving a Ford XR6 Falcon, will have his right to drive in the ACT suspended after he accrued six demerit points (with double demerits in place) and copped a $454 fine.

Shortly after, police stopped a blue Ford Fiesta travelling at 116kmh along the same stretch of road.

A 19-year-old Theodore woman, who held an ACT provisional driver’s licence, was also fined $454 and will accrue six demerit points – which will lead to a three-month licence suspension.

Double demerits are in force until 11.59pm, Tuesday, April 25.
