Threat of storms passes as BOM drops warning

THE Bureau of Meteorology has ended its earlier warning of severe thunderstorms for Canberra on Saturday afternoon.

The yellow area depicts the storm-affect area, according the bureau.

The fear had been of a very moist environment supporting slow-moving storms capable of producing heavy localised rainfall, large hail and damaging winds.

Despite passing thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall across parts of the region, the fear of flash flooding passed.

Nevertheless, Goulburn Airport recorded 31 mm of rain in 30 minutes to 11.11am on Saturday morning.
