Prescribed burns may bring temporary smoke cover

TEMPORARY smoke cover may be visible across parts of Canberra from a couple of prescribed burns at Black Mountain and Aranda on Wednesday and another on Thursday in Bruce.

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service said the prescribed burns at Black Mountain Nature Reserve, Aranda and Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve were to reduce the risk of fire and protect the surrounding areas.

Experienced ACT Parks and Conservation fire managers would conduct and oversee the burning operation.

“Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke, but temporary smoke cover is possible and may be visible across parts of Canberra,” the service said.

“The public are asked not to call emergency triple-zero unless they see any unattended fire.”
