Police swoop on drink driving and traffic offences

Police breath testing over Easter.

POLICE undertook an Easter long weekend traffic operation in Canberra in which they breathalysed about 2500 drivers, of which five were found to be above the legal limit. Of the 22 roadside drug tests, two drivers showed positive results.

Three hundred and twenty traffic infringement notices were issued for varying offences, including 117 for speeding and about 50 for drivers operating an unregistered vehicle, of which 27 were also issued infringements for driving an uninsured vehicle (Compulsory Third-Party insurance).

On Saturday evening, police responded to a serious, two-vehicle collision on Gungahlin Drive, Mitchell. Three people were taken to hospital with one in a critical condition. This followed assisting NSW police at a two-vehicle collision near Murrumbateman on Friday morning that saw four people lose their lives.
