SITTING member Nichole Overall is holding her lead against Labor’s Steve Whan in the primary vote count for Monaro in Saturday’s NSW election, but her chances of re-election will rest on the allocation of preferences, which are going Whan’s way.

As at the NSW Electoral Commission’s 11.28am update on Wednesday, the Nationals’ Overall had 17,793 first preferences to Whan’s 17,501.

The tables were turned as the early voting centre counts and postal votes were being finalised. In early voting, Overall sits on a total of 8648 votes to Whan’s 7434. Overall finished strongly in Jerrabomberra and is leading in Cooma and Jindabyne where counting is continuing.

However, the NSWEC, on two-party preferred voting this morning has Whan at 52.37 per cent of the vote to Overall’s 47.68 per cent.
