Hairdressers and hospitality workers get portable long service

THE Legislative Assembly has passed the Long Service Leave Amendment Bill, which will allow workers in the hairdressing and beauty, and accommodation and food services industries to take their long-service entitlements with them when they move jobs within the same industry.

Businesses will have two years to prepare for the newly expanded long service leave arrangements, with support from the ACT Long Service Leave Authority about how to register and meet their obligations.

The scheme is administered by the Long Service Leave Authority, which will begin a program of implementation work, including a comprehensive education and awareness campaign for new industries joining the scheme.
