Day and night relay to raise funds for cancer support

Relay For Life walkers on the track to raising funds.

MORE than 700 Canberrans will walk in relay for 24 hours at the AIS Athletics this weekend to raise funds for local cancer support, prevention and research.

“Relay For Life really is such a meaningful community event, with teams coming together to not just support each other, but primarily to support those in our lives who have been affected by cancer,” says Cancer Council ACT CEO Verity Hawkins.

“With almost half of all Australians diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, cancer really does impact all of us. Relay For Life raises funds that go directly to cancer support and prevention here in the ACT.”

Teams have been fundraising and training since December and will take to the track from Saturday, April 1 to Sunday, April 2.

“Relay is a chance for the Canberra community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives,” says Verity.

“For those that can’t make it to the in-person event, you can choose to Relay Your Way on or close to the day – email events@actcancer.org to find out more. The public can support individual teams or the general cause by donating at relayforlife.org.au/event/act-2023.”
