AUSTRALIAN Irish dancing duo Ceili Moore and Brent Pace’s live tap show “A Taste of Ireland” is at the Canberra Theatre on October 21.
TUGGERANONG Arts Centre will celebrate 25 years of art making with a slap-up variety show and after-party on November 18. They’re calling for community memories to share on the day. Contribute at tuggeranongarts.com the “What’s on” then “TAC turns 25”.
QUEENSLAND Ballet is bringing Liam Scarlett’s version of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to Canberra Theatre, October 25-28.
Film
- CANBERRA International Film Festival returns with three days of film classics, this year exploring the work of Mitchell Leisen, the maestro of high-energy 1930s Hollywood comedy and Australian documentary director, Kathryn Millard. Arc Cinema, National Film and Sound Archive, October 20-22.
- THE Australian Film Television and Radio School is marking its 50th anniversary with an program of newly restored short films from some of its most celebrated alumni. National Film and Sound Archive, October 23.
Exhibitions
- “ARCHIE 100: A Century of the Archibald Prize” unearths fascinating stories behind almost 100 selected artworks. First presented at the Art Gallery of NSW in 2021 as part of its 150th birthday celebrations, the exhibition’s last stop will be at the National Portrait Gallery, October 20-January 28.
- CANBERRA artist Waratah Lahy is drawn to painting often-unnoticed details of suburban life. Working in watercolour and oil, her exhibition “Neighbourhood Watch” will be at Beaver Galleries, Deakin, October 19-November 4.
- KRIS Ancog’s exhibition of paintings, “Sacred Realm”, Aarwun Gallery, Federation Square, Nicholls, opens October 20.
- “MEMPHIS Now” is co-curated group exhibition presented by Megalo Print Studio and Canberra Glassworks, showcasing six artists whose work boldly captures the spirit of the ’80s design movement known as Memphis. Opens at Canberra Glassworks on October 21.
- SUKI & Hugh Gallery, Bungendore, will open an exhibition of new paintings, “Natural Light”, by Sandra Brand, Edward Essing and Astro Spiller, Bungendore, October 21-November 26.

- CORINE Andrew and Milko Foucault-Larche will perform French popular music “Piaf and Aznavour – Back in Time”. The Street Theatre, October 22.
- LUMINESCENCE Chamber Singers’ last subscription concert of 2023 will be “As a Flower Unfurls”, songs about spring and changing seasons. All Saint’s Anglican Church, Ainslie, October 22.
- TWO of Canberra’s leading Big Bands, Connexion and In Full Swing, will combine for a swinging evening ranging from classic tunes to modern, Croatian Club, O’Connor, October 21.
- CANBERRA composer Sally Greenaway, is launching her book of piano sheet music, “Piano Music for Discoverers (vol 1)”, at Greenaway Studio, Chapman on October 22.
- ANU PhD candidate, soprano Sarah Mann, will present a lecture-recital, “Unveiling the Soprano”, exploring Western operatic singing perception. Larry Sitsky Recital Room, ANU School of Music, October 25.
- YOUNG pianist Charles Huang in Charles will perform Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 18 in E-flat major, Rachmaninov’s Prelude in G minor and a selection from Bach’s “Well-Tempered Clavier” in his eighth solo recital at Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, October 25.
Stage
- ANDREW Bovell’s play “Speaking In Tongues,” on which the film “Lantana” was based, will be at ACT Hub, Kingston, October 26-November 4.
- REBUS Theatre, Canberra Community Law and Legal Aid ACT “Just Hearing”, a Forum Theatre initiative that challenges the legal system to understand the impacts of trauma on clients. Developed and delivered by lived-experience actors and creative team. Main Hall, Gorman Arts Centre, October 20.
