20 sports fields to stay open through maintenance period

TWENTY irrigated sports fields will stay open for training during the two-week winter maintenance period that starts on Saturday.

Most fields will undergo maintenance, such as top dressing (spreading a new layer of sand/soil) and upgrades to turf, installing goal posts and line marking, from Saturday to March 31.

The ACT government manages 127 irrigated sports ground sites, with 882 individual hireable sports fields hosting year-round training and competitions.

The maintenance period is carried out twice yearly at the beginning and end of the summer sport season.

The 20 sports fields to remain open for bookings are:

  • Campbell
  • Conder (two fields)
  • Curtin (two fields)
  • Duffy
  • Griffith (two fields)
  • Hall
  • Holt (two fields)
  • Kaleen (three fields)
  • Page (two fields)
  • Pearce (two fields)
  • Watson (two fields)
