Kangaroo crash stops suspended driver

A suspended 29-year-old man’s allegedly high-speed driving burst through Narrabundah, Fyshwick and Queanbeyan early on Thursday morning came to halt when he ran into a mob of kangaroos.

At about 12.40am police spotted a silver Ford Focus driving above the speed limit on Canberra Avenue in Symonston.

On directing him to pull over on Hindmarsh Drive, police say the driver took off at speed and was seen driving dangerously, including through red lights and on the wrong side of the road into Narrabundah before crossing into Queanbeyan.

A short time later, the vehicle re-entered the ACT. Police say they initiated a pursuit, with the driver hitting speeds of about 130km/h in an 80km/h zone on Canberra Avenue, where he went through a red light and collided with a Toyota Corolla.

The driver was finally stopped when he ran into a mob of kangaroos crossing the road.

He was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while suspended and drug possession.
