Seven arrested in cross-border swoop after stabbing

NSW and ACT detectives have charged seven men and seized multiple firearms as part of a cross-border investigation into a double stabbing in Queanbeyan last month.

On August 8, police were called to a business on Crawford Street, following reports of a brawl, from which two men – aged 26 and 29 – had been taken to Queanbeyan Hospital with serious stab injuries.

On Wednesday, seven search warrants were executed across NSW and the ACT.

The NSW police say that during searches of homes in Queanbeyan and Crestwood, three pistols and one disassembled Glock pistol were seized.

Two men – aged 24 and 30 – were arrested at one property in Queanbeyan, with a third man – aged 27 – arrested at a home in Crestwood. A fourth man – aged 25 – was also arrested at a home in Queanbeyan.

Four search warrants were also executed in the ACT, during which three men – aged 20, 27, 33 – were arrested before appearing at the ACT Magistrates Court and being extradited to Queanbeyan.

All seven men were charged, including with wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder (two counts), wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (two counts). An eighth male will be charged when he appears in court later this month.

The 24-year-old was also charged with possessing a prohibited drug (two counts), possessing a prescribed restricted substance and possession or use a prohibited weapon without a permit.

The 30-year-old man was also charged with recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime less than $5000, possessing an unregistered firearm and possessing a prohibited drug.

The 25-year-old man was also charged with destroying/damaging property in public disorder of more than $2000.
