Email scam targets Canberra frequent flyers

By aviation writer Scott Mayman

Canberra-based frequent flyers with Qantas are being heavily targeted by email scams.

Over the past fortnight, offers purporting to be from Qantas have flooded the inboxes of frequent flyers.

From a gift card reward to being selected for a complimentary voucher, it’s all just a scam aimed at getting recipients to click on a link and hand over personal details.

I have been targeted five times in two weeks.

The Qantas website acknowledges the frequency of such scams, admitting the messages look legitimate and urging frequent flyers to remain vigilant.

It’s not known if the scam emails are related to an incident in October in which two Qantas contractors in India accessed customer profiles.

The pair was suspended in a major cyber fraud case.

Here is Qantas’ advice and warning on scams.
