A 27-year-old Florey man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after allegedly assaulting his partner with a broomstick and then driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police allege the man cornered the victim in the garage, yelled at her, struck her with a broomstick and pulled her hair when she tried to leave.
He then drove away from the scene, but was stopped by police. He was found to be driving without a licence and returned a positive result on a roadside alcohol screening test. A breath analysis test at the police station returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.069.
The man’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days, and he was charged with aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, drink driving, and unlicensed driving.
