Slash the number of election corflutes, says Strong

Strong Independents, which is standing only in Kurrajong in Saturday’s election, wants to slash the number of corflute roadside signs to a  fifth of what is currently allowed, that is to 50 per candidate.

“We also propose to permit unattended A-frames or large posters with candidate or party information attached, to be placed much closer to the voting place, one per  candidate,” said party leader Peter Strong.

“Currently, each candidate can have up to 250 corflutes each. In the  electorate of Kurrajong, with 33 candidates, this means potentially 8250 corflutes in  the inner south and inner north alone. Disturbingly, this means around 35,000 corflutes  across Canberra,” he said.

The issues of safety, size and suitability of the unattended A-frames would be developed  by Elections ACT.
