Rex is going nowhere for Canberra customers

Months on, the impact of the collapse of Rex Airlines’ Melbourne service remains an issue for some of its Canberra customers, says aviation writer SCOTT MAYMAN.

On the appointment of administrators in July, embattled Rex Airlines suspended its only service from Canberra – a 737 jet service to Melbourne.

While there are still few clues to its future, administration may lead to a complete shutdown of Rex or a partial continuation of services as well as uncertainly around the airline’s staff and management.

Similarly, local customers are dealing with no refunds for cancelled services, interrupted travel plans and no immediate prospect of redeeming frequent flyer benefits during the administration period (although membership to the scheme remains open).

Nevertheless, Rex continues to fly to regional destinations using its SAAB fleet, but nothing starting or finishing in Canberra.

All tickets on cancelled services are now void and as such, anyone in that situation may be considered a creditor and entitled to submit a claim to the administration (to rex.creditors@au.ey.com) with details including name and contact information.
