Woman charged after hammer attack on hospital patient

A man is fighting for his life after being attacked with a hammer while in hospital.

A 46-year-old woman allegedly walked into Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning and struck the man in his head with the improvised weapon, police said.

Initial inquiries suggest the 63-year-old man is known to the woman.

The man remains in a critical condition.

The woman was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with grievous bodily harm.
