It’s no secret Ted Lasso kicked one of Apple TV’s biggest goals.

This heartfelt comedy series about an American football coach who takes the reins at a struggling English Premier League club became an international hit when it first started streaming in 2020.

Jason Sudeikis stars as the titular Ted Lasso, thrown into the deep end when he gets the unexpected call to lead a soccer team that just can’t seem to catch a break. 

They’re down the bottom of the ladder, barely able to scrape together a win and that’s exactly how the club’s owner wants it.

Spurned by an ex-husband who publicly humiliated her, she’s determined to bury the one thing he loved more than anything: the club she now owns.

It turns out hiring Lasso is her plan to put the final nail in the coffin.

Although he knows little about this strange code of football from across the pond, Ted’s unconventional approach turns out to be the very thing the team needs to finally reach its potential.

Carrying with him a relentless sense of optimism and ambition to make the team get along, Lasso begins to conjure a miracle by giving them the one thing they’d been missing: hope. 

It was the feel-good vibe of the show that made it such a sensation, even for non-soccer fans.

Amassing millions of viewers, things wrapped up in a satisfying conclusion with a season three finale deserving of what the show had built.

Wrapped up… until now.

It turns out Ted Lasso has just gone to extra time, getting a fourth season, which has begun streaming on Apple’s platform.

Unable to let a good thing go to waste, they’ve brought back the show for another attempt to pull in subscribers.

In this season Lasso is now sent to coach the Lady Greyhounds, a second-division women’s team in even more dire straits than Richmond FC before them.

Can he once again pull off a miracle?

More pressing, can the show?

When platforms don’t let things go, the result is often half-baked writing designed to dish out episode quotas rather than tell an original story.

This time the kick is far from goal indeed. Here’s hoping Ted Lasso can find the net once more.

THIS month Netflix has claimed streaming rights to one of TV’s big drama hitters. 

The Hunting Wives is now streaming on the platform and there’s big plans for its future. 

This gossipy murder mystery follows Sophie O’Neill (Brittany Snow) a former political public relations pundit who becomes obsessed with a rich socialite named Margo Banks (Malin Ackerman) when she moves to Texas to start a new life.

This infatuation seems glamorous on the surface, but it soon begins to pull Sophie down a dark path.

Margo introduces her to “the hunting wives”, an exclusive clique of rich, horse-riding, target-shooting, hard-partying women who want to recruit Sophie to their cause.

Things begin to unravel when a teenage girl’s death rocks the small community and opens up a Pandora’s box of secrets Sophie never could have expected. 

This one is based on a best-selling book by American author May Cobb.

The first season originally premiered on other streaming platforms after it was first made by American TV network Starz.

Netflix saw the potential for wider distribution though, scooping up the rights in a major deal and distributing it to subscribers where it’s become a major hit.

Now Netflix plans to produce a second season of the series, which is expected to drop later this year.

While the first season pretty much covered the entire plot of the novel, the second season is now continuing the story beyond what was originally written.

That’s always a risk when the story goes in its own direction in order to appease the executives who need more seasons fast. *Cough, cough* Game of Thrones.

It’s been reported May Cobb has a very heavy hand in constructing the new season of The Hunting Wives though. 

All that bodes well for Netflix to have yet another subscriber obsession on its hands.
