Red light crash ends alleged bid to evade police

A 20-year-old Monash man has been charged after allegedly driving through a red light and crashing into another vehicle while trying to evade police.

Police say officers spotted the man driving a white Holden Commodore in Belconnen on Wednesday. He was wanted on an arrest warrant over alleged robbery and burglary offences.

As police moved to stop the vehicle, the man allegedly drove through a red light at the intersection of Kuringa Drive and the Barton Highway, where the Commodore collided with a red Mercedes.

The man allegedly fled on foot before being arrested after a short chase.

He has been charged with driving without due care, driving as an unaccompanied learner and using an unregistered vehicle.

Police are seeking witnesses or dash-cam footage of the collision or the white Holden Commodore in the Belconnen area.
