Canberra comedian Tanya Losanno returns with an encore season of her Canberra Comedy Festival show, Boulevard of Broken Bonbonniere, which celebrates wedding trinkets while exploring the emotional, often hilarious rollercoaster of nuptials. The Street Theatre, June 27.
The coming Nordic Film Festival is looking distinctly edgy, with The Kidnapping of a President following what happens when a Finnish group of far-right officers drunkenly decide to start a revolution in 1930; Icelandic comedy/drama The Love That Remains, featuring a performance from director Hlynur Pálmason’s own dog Panda, and Sweden’s psychological thriller Doctor Glas, which follows a reclusive young doctor whose fascination with fashion icon Helga Gregorius spirals into madness. Palace Electric, July 9-August 2.
The Ray of Light Winter Solstice Arts Festival invites Canberrans to embrace winter with an afternoon and evening of music, acoustic performances, dance, handmade stalls, tarot readings, children’s activities, food and drink. White Eagle Polish Club, Turner, June 21.
National Opera’s The Don will blend comedy, drama and tragedy to explore the many faces of powerful noblemen (Dons) in Italian opera through a sequence of fully staged scenes drawn from works including Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, Don Pasquale, La Gioconda and Attila. The Street Theatre, June 27-28.
Shortis and Simpson unveil a new edition of Off the Cuff, an eclectic musical showcase ranging from Cohen to Donovan, The Kinks to Procol Harum, Bach to Liszt, Rodgers to Hart, country to western, Shortis to Simpson, even a yodel. Smith’s Alternative, June 21.
