A 41-year-old Coombs man has been charged after allegedly drink driving and failing to stop for police in Canberra’s inner-south earlier this week.
About 5pm on Tuesday, police patrolling in Yarralumla observed a white Mazda 3 with front-end damage travelling along Adelaide Avenue.
Officers activated their lights and sirens, however the driver failed to stop.
Police followed the vehicle until it pulled over on Parkes Place, where the driver allegedly reversed suddenly, forcing officers to move their vehicle to avoid a collision.
The man underwent a roadside breath test that returned a positive result. He was taken into custody where further testing recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.157, three times the legal limit.
A search of the vehicle uncovered six bottles of wine, two of which were empty.
The man has been charged with drink driving and dangerous driving offences. His licence was immediately suspended.
Anyone who witnessed the white Mazda 3, bearing ACT registration YSE05C, driving in Yarralumla or Parkes to contact police via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
