Unlicensed teen caught twice on the same night

An unlicensed teen was caught by police twice on one night for alleged driving offences.

He was first stopped for speeding at 119km/h in an 80km/h zone on Horsepark Drive in Moncrieff at about 11.55pm on Wednesday.

Police spoke with a 17-year-old boy from Spence. He gave false details and produced a friend’s provisional driver licence, which was listed as suspended. The teen was released pending further inquiries and advised to not drive unless licenced to do so.

Immediately after the initial traffic stop, police saw the same vehicle, a Mitsubishi Outlander, speeding excessively again in the opposite direction along Horsepark Drive in Taylor.

Police attempted to intercept, but the driver failed to comply and crossed on to the incorrect side of a nearby street before eventually coming to a stop.

He was arrested and faces the ACT Children’s Court on May 26 with multiple driving offences including:

  • 2 x exceed speed (30-45km/h)
  • unlicensed driver – never held (first offence)
  • unlicensed driver – never held (repeat offence)
  • reckless dangerous driving
  • failing to stop for police
  • providing a misleading statement
  • stating false name, date of birth and home address (including producing another person’s driver licence)
