Incoming Canberra Theatre Centre director Georgia Hendy.

Georgia Hendy, currently CEO of the Darwin entertainment centre, is the new director of Canberra Theatre Centre.

She replaces Alex Budd, who resigned to head Opera Australia.

Ms Hendy has also held senior leadership roles at the Sydney Opera House and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

“Woven into the fabric of Canberra’s arts scene, the [Canberra Theatre] Centre has long been a place where creativity thrives, and stories resonate,” she says.

“I look forward to building on this legacy – working with local, national, and international partners to grow its reach and impact.”

Arts Minister Michael Petterson describes Ms Hendy’s appointment as “an exciting step forward for Canberra’s cultural landscape.”

“Her leadership will help deliver world-class experiences for our audiences and ensure the Canberra Theatre Centre continues to play a vital role in the city’s creative and economic future,” he says.

Ms Hendy takes up her new role in February.
