Four teens aged between 14 and 15 have been charged overnight in relation to stolen vehicles in Weetangera and Nicholls. Three of them were on bail for previous similar offences.
About 11.30pm on Sunday police patrolling Weetangera spotted a Hyundai Tuscon SUV, which had previously been reported as stolen. The vehicle was travelling at high speed on Schumack Street and as it approached Springvale Drive police used tyre deflation devices.
Police say the SUV failed to take the next turn, colliding with a traffic island and a sign. A 14-year-old boy fled the vehicle, with police arresting him soon after near Belconnen Way and charging him with with breaching bail and riding/driving in a motor vehicle without consent.
A 15-year-old, found hiding in a front garden near the collision scene, was charged with breaching bail.
In a second incident at about 3am on Monday, police were alerted to people attempting to enter vehicles in Nicholls. A 14-year-old girl was subsequently charged with breach of bail and riding/driving in a motor vehicle without consent and a 14-year-old boy was charged with theft, going equipped for theft, possession of stolen property and riding/driving in a motor vehicle without consent.
