Pedestrian dies after being hit by tram in Downer

A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a tram at the intersection of Northbourne Avenue and Barton Highway in Downer at around  7.15 on Saturday night. 

Police say the 49-year-old man from Ngunnawal is the first light rail fatality since it started on 2019 and the fourth road fatality for 2025.

Emergency services treated the man at the scene before he was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

The police Major Collision Team is investigating the collision and will prepare a report for the coroner.
