Inner south police chase ends in a crash in Yarralumla

Police chased an unregistered Mazda 6 through the inner south on Thursday morning.

The driver, a  42-year-old man from Watson, had a suspended licence and was subject to an arrest warrant. He has been charged with multiple offences including aggravated dangerous driving, driving while licence suspended, using a suspended vehicle and breaching a treatment order.

Police had attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly accelerated through a red light to evade police and continued to drive in a dangerous manner, driving through further red lights and on the wrong side of the road.

During the pursuit, the Mazda’s two front tyres deflated, but the driver continued to drive on the rims until losing control and crashing into a timber bollard in Yarralumla.

Police arrested the driver following a short struggle. He subsequently tested positive to the presence of methamphetamine during an oral fluid test.
